Free Variations on Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert

Dorian Ford, the internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Keith Jarrett’s legendary improvised 1975 Köln Concert with this unique performance. Reaching back through time he blends his passion for Jarrett’s brilliant original with his own improvisations – his riffs and grooves re-igniting the spark of genius of the young Jarrett.

For lovers of jazz and classical music this is a celebration not to be missed.

Famously Jarrett threatened to cancel the concert. It was the wrong piano. It couldn’t be tuned. He was frustrated, hungry and in pain. It was only thanks to the promoter, 17-year-old Vera Brandes, that the concert took place.

The live recording is still the best-selling solo piano album in history (both classical and jazz).

“I think I’m always in dialogue with something other than what I’ve just played. That’s the essence of improvisation.”   Keith Jarrett
